I have finally named all my current adult dragons. Phew!
It's ridiculously silly, but here's the schemes:
Dark Green dragons are named first for vines and then a common human name relating to their DC HTML code (MLIO=Milo).
Guardian dragons are given any name, or multiple names, in any language or multiple languages that mean guardian/protector, etc.
Stone dragons I thought briefly about giving Old English names ending in -stan, but they all have to do with wolves instead, 'cause I like those OE folks better. As a tribute, though, I gave the first one Wulfstan. Besides, I really like Sermo Lupi Ad Anglos, so...
Origami dragons are all named after small airplanes.
Two-headed dragons are all given names from words that mean "twin" or "double," and most of them have gone to OE as well.
Black dragons get OE names that have to do with sleep or darkness.
My one dinosaur is named "Unongunnen," which means "without a beginning."
Skywing dragons are all named after dragonflies.
The two chickens are both named variants of "galla domestica."
Red dragons are all named after fireflies.
Frilled dragons are all named after gliding lizards, 'cause there's only one frilled lizard and I don't really feel like stretching that nomenclature so far.
My first Geode dragon is named "Ecgbryht," meaning edge-bright. Others will be given further "bright" OE names.
Why yes, I do love my Concise Anglo-Saxon Dictionary. Why do you ask?
